Overview
While dairy foods provide nutrients that are vital for the health and maintenance of the body offering  benefits like building and maintaining strong bones, there is no disputing the negative gastrointestinal effects dairy may have on many people.

Intolerance to dairy is often due to the inability to digest milk sugar known as lactose. Our body needs a natural enzyme called lactase which breaks down lactose into two simple sugars, glucose and galactose, which can be absorbed into the bloodstream. People whose bodies don’t make enough lactase can’t fully digest lactose, causing mild to uncomfortable side effects such as gas, bloating and diarrhea. However, intolerance is also frequently related to the difficult to digest proteins (casein and whey) found in all dairy products.

Poolzyme® DAIRY is formulated with lactase for lactose digestion and protease for breaking down casein and dairy proteins. For more complete digestion of high-fat dairy foods such as cheese, it is also packed with lipase, critical for the digestion and absorption of dietary fats.

Composition

Poolzyme®’s enzymes are manufactured through a fermentation process in NSF and GMP compliant facility. Fermentation parameters such as temperature, pressure, oxygen, feed, pH and the concentration of nutrients are carefully managed to optimize the activity of each enzyme while assuring potency and stability over time. Upon completion of the manufacturing process, the final blend is tested to verify compliance with quality specifications established for enzyme preparations.

Our product contains only non-GMO fungal enzymes without the presence of any animal-based enzyme.

Preclinical evidence

A study published in Food Bioscience (Duncan et al., 2025) provides compelling mechanistic evidence supporting the use Poolzyme® DAIRY to enhance digestion of complex, multi-nutrient meals (i.e. multi-cheese pizza). Using the validated INFOGEST static in vitro digestion model, researchers simulated the full gastrointestinal process. When compared to the control meal digested using the INFOGEST protocol (without added enzymes), 300 mg of Poolzyme® DAIRY significantly improve digestion of lactose, milk proteins and fats.
